Steel Framed Buildings and Fire Regulations

Building regulations state that all steel framed structures will need to have a fire rated coating applied to the structural steel to prolong stability while exposed to fire. Thus helping to maintain its load bearing capacity for the required length of time.

Our end-to-end service for structural fire protection supports customers from initial specification through to project certification.

Features Include

  • Identify the most appropriate solution for your project, with specifications to meet architect’s requirements.
  • Provide written confirmation of compatibility of structural steel’s existing primer with intumescent.
  • Provide tables showing coating thickness requirements for your project.
  • Cost these tables for accurate project budgeting.
  • Supply and install intumescent basecoat to meet project requirements.
  • Inspect and certify upon completion.

Intumescent Thin Film Coatings

Our applicators have experience in the application of Intumescent products and fully understand the application procedure. PFP Coatings believe, there is no room for error with intumescent fire protection and skilled applicators are an essential element of a successful contract. We ensure that all our applicators are fully accredited as they are professionally trained in the application process of thin film intumescent.

Key Products

  • C400V4 EPOXY PRIMER is A multi functional Epoxy coating for the protection of carbon steel.
  • FIRETEX FX2003 is a solvent based intumescent designed for in-shop application by airless spray, to provide fire resistance for periods up to 120 minutes on structural steel.
  • FIRETEX FX5062 is a water based intumescent designed for application by airless spray to provide fire resistance for periods of up to 90 minutes on structural steel.
  • M71V2 is a sheen, decorative intumescent topcoat for the FIRETEX range of single pack intumescent coatings.
  • C137V2 is a a high performance fast drying acrylic urethane gloss finish for use where long term exterior gloss and colour retention characteristics are required.

Cables and Cable Tray Coatings

KBS Coating is a water-based, ablative fire protective coating, especially developed for the fire protection of grouped or bundled electrical cables and for penetration seals. The main function of KBS Coating is to prevent flame propagation along vertical and horizontal cable ways.

KBS Coating will also delay short circuit, whereby circuit integrity depends on the distance of the cables from fire and the incurred temperature.

Key Features

  • Ablative coating, acts by endothermic reaction
  • Highly weather resistant
  • Unique outdoor weathering test over 30 years
  • High resistance to aging and chemicals
  • LOI > 95 % – no flame formation during burning, even in highest oxygen saturation
  • Ready for use over the entire service life of electrical cables
  • Highly flexible with simultaneous high mechanical load capacity
  • High thermal conductivity and current carrying capacity of electrical cables
  • Prevents the formation of toxic, corrosive gases and smoke
